Earthquake in Nepal

A major earthquake, of magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale, struck Nepal on 25th April 2015. Thousands of people have lost their lives and there is widespread damage in the densely populated capital city, Kathmandu. By the grace of Bhagawan, there was no substantial damage to the Sathya Sai centre or Sathya Sai School in Kathmandu.

It is reported that over a million people are without food and 8 million people have been displaced. To support the local relief efforts, the SSIO has transferred funds immediately to the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust Nepal, and will continue to support this seva. The SSIO of Nepal has started offering food, water, clothes, shelter and medical care to the victims of the disaster, including patients at hospitals. They are also organising blood donations and helping at local hospitals. The greatest need is for food and shelter. More than 500 Sathya Sai volunteers are serving over 6,000 hot meals to the hungry, every day.

The local SSIO leaders, the Chair of Zone 4, and the Chair of SSIO Disaster Relief Committee have recommended that it is neither safe nor advisable for international SSIO volunteers to travel to Nepal at this time, due to limited access by road and by air, continued aftershocks, and security reasons, as advised by local government authorities. We will inform Sathya Sai volunteers about service opportunities when the situation improves.

Sathya Sai volunteers who wish to participate in the humanitarian relief work in Nepal may visit the SSIO websites, by clicking on the links below, for further details: Let us all pray to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba to shower His grace on the victims of the natural disaster, and give them courage and strength during their time of need. Let us come together as one family, and offer our loving prayers and support to our brothers and sisters in Nepal.

Jai Sai Ram.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The situation is being monitored carefully by the senior SSIO leaders and we will keep you apprised of future activities.

Please read and feel free to forward it to family, friends, and others.

The SSIO is continuing to provide humanitarian relief to our brothers and sisters in Nepal after the major earthquake of 25th April 2015. Here is the most recent update on relief activities in Nepal...
The Sri Sathya Sai World Foundation has transferred funds to the Sathya Sai organisation of Nepal to support services of providing food, water, shelter, and medicines on an on-going basis, and will continue to do so as long as necessary.
Over 6,000 hot meals and drinking water are being provided daily by over 500 Sathya Sai volunteers in 12 districts which were hard hit by the earthquake. Some of the remote areas are accessible only by foot and many have not had a morsel of food for days.
Distributing supplies to mother and newborn child
Serving hot meals at Tribhuvan University
The SSIO has arranged for the shipment of 1,000 tents, 15-ft by 12-ft, which can accommodate a family of 8 or more – thus providing shelter for 8,000 people or more. Temporary shelter is one of the highest priorities for the displaced and the homeless in Nepal, after the earthquake.
In partnership with Direct Relief International (DRI), a consignment of medical supplies was delivered by air to Kathmandu, for use in SSIO medical relief operations. Sathya Sai doctors and volunteers have been providing medical relief to the sick and the injured, since the time of the earthquake.
Sai Volunteers at medical camp for earthquake victims in Sindhupalchowk district
Medical and Sanitation camp at Farsidol village, Lalitpur district. Distributing masks, water purifier, oral rehydration powders and also training on sanitation measures and methods.
Sathya Sai Youth carrying relief supplies through devastated area in Nuwakot District
The SSIO has arranged for a water quality expert from USA to visit Nepal in the first week of June to discuss water purification issues with the Water Supply Board of Nepal. Potable water remains a problem in many areas, due to ground water contamination and lack of treatment.
The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation (SSSSO) of India has delivered more than 90 tons of food, tarpaulins, hygiene items and other relief supplies. The SSIO appreciates and thanks the SSSSO, India for their generous support in this time of need.
Provisions such as blankets, tarpaulins, and food materials were distributed to earthquake victims at Ghyalku and Telpani village of Lalitpur district.

Sathya Sai members who wish to participate in the humanitarian relief work in Nepal may visit the SSIO websites, by clicking on the links below, for further details:
Let us all pray to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba to shower His grace on the victims of the natural disaster. Let us come together as one family, and offer our loving prayers and support to our brothers and sisters in Nepal.

On Monday, March 2nd, the SSIO of Colombia arranged a public meeting in the “Centro Empresarial y Recreativo, El Cubo” auditorium in Bogota. Due to the weather forecast for torrential rain and also being a working day, it was expected to be poorly attended. But to everyone’s surprise, over 700 people, most of them not members of the SSIO, braved the inclement weather to come and hear about Sathya Sai Baba’s message of love, selfless service, and practical spirituality, from senior leaders of the SSIO.
Despite the bad weather, over 700 attended the public meeting in Bogota

Cyclone Disaster Relief in Fiji

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are happy to share with you the latest update on the humanitarian relief work being done with love and compassion by Sathya Sai volunteers in Fiji Islands where a Category 5 cyclone struck on Saturday, 20 February 2016. The Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSIO) of Zone 3 – Australia and Papua New Guinea, Fiji and New Zealand, sprang into action immediately after the cyclone hit Fiji. Sathya Sai volunteers from Fiji started offering hot meals, food packets, drinking water, clothes and medical care to the victims of the natural disaster immediately after a nation-wide curfew was lifted on the next Monday morning. The SSIO team focused their efforts in helping families in very remote rural communities who had not received any food, supplies or assistance from any source, until the SSIO volunteers arrived on the scene.

Please read and feel free to forward it to family, friends, and others.

Destruction from tropical cyclone Winston
Tropical cyclone Winston, reported to be one of the strongest storms to make landfall since modern records began in the 1970s, ravaged through most of the country; damaging homes, infrastructure, farms and disrupting people’s livelihoods. To witness and describe the sheer scale of destruction is difficult enough, but what the affected people endure on the aftermath of such destruction is even harder to comprehend.
The cyclone made landfall near Rakiraki, population 30,000, at 5 PM on 20th February. So far, 43 people have lost their lives. Remote communities in the townships of Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki (on the North West of the main island - Viti Levu) along with about 100 smaller outlying islands such as Koro were the worst affected areas. A National state of emergency was declared in the country. By the grace of Bhagawan, there was comparably minor damage to the Sathya Sai School in Lautoka.

In the West, 4,864 houses were destroyed and 6,574 partially damaged. In the North, 792 houses were destroyed and 2,617 partially damaged, and in the Central Division, 568 were destroyed and 1,667 partially damaged. In the East, 819 houses were destroyed and 253 partially damaged.
Sathya Sai volunteers bring food, water and supplies daily

Approximately 30 Sathya Sai volunteers with the help of local NGOs and religious groups are serving over 500 victims in remote locations daily, with food rations and clean drinking water. Volunteers from both SSIO Australia and New Zealand are also contributing in the relief efforts. They delivered over 6 tonnes of food and 1,500 litres of clean drinking water, in many cases by foot and even on horseback. A team of over 70 volunteers from New Zealand were scheduled to travel to Fiji in April for holding Medical Camps. However, the scale of destruction moved them to arrive much earlier, to participate in humanitarian relief work immediately.

Delivering supplies to remote locations
The SSIO volunteers have been working almost around the clock since the cyclone hit, to provide relief supplies to affected families. Sathya Sai Youth are leading components of the relief efforts. SSIO of Fiji expects the initial phase (providing food packs and clean drinking water) to continue.
Clothing and basic essentials are being packed in major cities of Australia and shipped to Fiji. Some collection of clothes being boxed at Sathya Sai Centre of Blacktown, under the auspices of the SSIO – Australia.
A nationwide prayer appeal has been organized in Australia. Prayers and devotional singing to help disaster victims and provide energy to the hardworking volunteers are being conducted daily at Sathya Sai Centres across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Delegates bearing flags of their countries

Sathya Sai World Youth Festival: Day 1

On the morning of 12th July 2016, the inaugural ceremony for the Sathya Sai World Youth Festival was held in the Sai Kulwant Hall in Prasanthi Nilayam. The 3-day festival from 12th to 14th July 2016 drew about 3,000 delegates from more than 70 countries. The youth have gathered in Puttaparthi from all corners of the world to celebrate the eternal joy of being a Sathya Sai Youth and to reflect on the festival theme: Love is the Source, Love is the Path and Love is the Goal. The event started with a colorful procession of youth delegates bearing flags of their countries.
Procession of flags from delegates' countries
In his inaugural address, Dr. Shivendra Kumar, International Youth Coordinator of the SSIO, enthusiastically reminded all delegates of the good fortune of being a Sathya Sai Youth. He set out the four objectives of the festival, namely: to celebrate the joy of knowing Sathya Sai Baba at a young age; to celebrate His life and teachings; to preserve His message through new initiatives; and to interact with elders of the organisation and learn and grow. He said that over 320 volunteers have been working tirelessly over the past 6 months to successfully bring this festival to life.
Dr. Narendranath Reddy, Mr. Nimish Pandya, Honourable Sri Piyush Goyal
In his address to delegates, Dr Narendranath Reddy, Chairman of the Prasanthi Council, commended the Sathya Sai Youth for putting together a unique program that is of the youth, for the youth, and by the youth. He stated that this is the first youth festival which incorporates athletic, artistic and creative components. He reiterated Sathya Sai Baba’s divine instructions to the youth to follow the four variations of ABC’s - Always be Courageous, Always be Compassionate, Always be Calm and Always be Cheerful.

Mr. Nimish Pandya, All India President, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation of India elaborated on the theme and stated that the true qualities of a Sathya Sai Youth are manifestation of Self-Confidence and knowing that Sathya Sai Baba is our only friend. Mr. Pandya reminded all Sathya Sai Youth that the greatest adventure they should embark on is to conquer the mind through love and service.
Thereafter, Sathya Sai Youth from Venezuela offered a beautiful melodic outpouring of love through a newly written song titled Mi Destino, which means My Destination

The Chief Guest, the Honorable Sri Piyush Goyal, Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, then addressed the august assembly. He drew attention to Sathya Sai Baba’s quintessential message that the mind sees separateness but Love sees unity and he said there is no greater happiness than making a difference to somebody who is less privileged than oneself. He shared his belief that these ideals can change the world.
Later in the morning, at the Exhibition Hall inside the ashram, an exhibition titled Ready, Steady… Goal was inaugurated in the presence of senior leaders of the organization and dignitaries.

After a blissful morning programme, the first afternoon session of the Sathya Sai World Youth Festival began in the Poornachandra Auditorium. The session emphasised connecting to the powerhouse within to access love. An interactive and entertaining game show encouraged youth to refresh their knowledge on the life, work and teachings of Sathya Sai Baba.
Session at the Poornachandra Auditorium
A video excerpt of Sathya Sai Baba’s discourse was then screened, reminding all that truth is one and same for the whole world. Further, the best way to love God is through the highest form of sadhana (spiritual practise) - by transforming love into service. The morning session ended with Bhajans and Mangala Arathi.

RadioSai representatives then discussed the importance of connecting with God. Both speakers reflected on the yearning for this connection and the priority that one should give to God’s work, which ultimately determines the level of closeness with God.
Multicultural musical dance
The evening programme in Sai Kulwant Hall consisted of three speakers and a multicultural musical dance presentation. Ms. Olga Baranova from Russia shared her experiences of following Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings and having unconditional faith in Him. Sri Hari Ranjan Rao, an Indian youth, inspired the global youth and said that there will always be an opportunity for them to contribute to society and their respective countries. He encouraged the youth to declare themselves as Sai’s soldiers and be ideal examples to fellow citizens.
The third speaker was a very special Guest Speaker, Sri V.V.S. Laxman, the legendary Indian cricketer, recipient of the Padma Shri award, and ardent devotee of Sathya Sai Baba. He shared the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, specifically emphasising detachment from the results of one’s effort and the importance of being guided by one’s inner voice. His personal, loving anecdotes from his interactions with Baba touched the hearts of the audience and drew applause.

Day 1 of the Sathya Sai World Youth Festival concluded with a vibrant and artistic cultural performance titled, Dancing to the Divine Rhythm – the Sai Way. As in the previous two days, the third and final day of the Sathya Sai World Youth Festival began at the break of dawn with light morning physical activities in the Hillview Stadium to keep the body in tune with soaring spirits.

Later in the morning, the programme in Sai Kulwant Hall commenced with an uplifting talk by Mr. Brijesh Bamalwa, a Sathya Sai Youth from India. Mr. Brijesh Bamalwa, Mr. Julio Vivenes Villavicencio, Dr, Chandrasekhar Narayan
In a heart-felt and inspiring talk, Mr. Julio Vivenes Villavicencio, the Zone Youth Coordinator from South America stressed that the primary quality of a devotee is having firm faith in God. He related personal anecdotes about the grace of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba to emphasise the omnipresence and omnipotence of God.
In his plenary address, Dr. Chandrasekhar Narayan, Director of Research, IBM, USA, reiterated that Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings on education are meant for life and not for earning a living, only. He explained how one can pursue a successful career through the implementation of human values and he advised the youth to make excellence a habit.

The morning session in Sai Kulwant Hall ended with the Hindi rendition of the Sathya Sai World Youth Festival theme song, bhajans by Sathya Sai Youth and Mangala Arathi.
Sri R.J. Ratnakar
The programme then continued in the Poornachandra Auditorium, where Sri R. J. Ratnakar, Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, gave an inspiring plenary address to the youth. He exhorted the youth to connect to their inner-net instead of the internet, and he reminded them that every problem has a solution and that success comes from having the right attitude. Sri Ratnakar emphasised the importance of loyalty to one’s Master, His work and His teachings and shared some of his intimate, personal experiences with the boundless love of Bhagawan and His priceless pearls of wisdom.

Sri Ratnakar concluded by adding to Dr. Chandrasekhar’s message of resisting the urge to judge people, by saying that if one wastes time in judging others, there will be no time left to love others, which is the royal road to divinity.
Discussions for Zone 8, Russia and adjoining countries
The morning programme concluded with youth from the Sathya Sai International Organisation grouping into their respective geographical Zones to discuss issues pertinent to their area and to develop action plans to move forward with the global Sathya Sai Youth movement.

He was followed by Mr. Nimish Pandya, who encouraged youth to offer everything to Sathya Sai Baba and never take ownership of one’s actions.

Dr. Narendranath Reddy reminded the youth of Sathya Sai Baba’s significant role in their lives and to develop a relationship with God. He advised the youth to follow their heart and not their head when making a decision.
Symphony for Sai
A short video clip of Sathya Sai Baba’s discourse on love and happiness was played, emphasising control of the senses. He also emphasised that love is a powerful weapon.
